"I guess that's what you put elected people in office for to make the hard decisions." I don't even like politicans who straddle the fence," Kicklighter told WTOC. I truly do and I am not a fence straddler. "I understand and sympathize with both sides. So, the group of RV owners from Henderson Golf Community took their beef to Chatham County commissioner Dean Kicklighter, who brought the issue up at county commission Friday morning.Īfter hearing both sides, the commission decided the ordinance will stay as is. "You pay thousands of dollars in taxes but you can't park your car in your own driveway," he said. "The ordinance seems to be very restrictive," Robert Barr said.įor Barr, he thinks the issue comes down to property rights. "I am worried someone is going to run into it or get hit by a car trying to walk around it," he said. They won, but say one neighbor began calling the county to enforce an old county ordinance to keep them from parking on their own property. "You can park it in the road but can't park it in the driveway," Newcomer said.Ī year ago, he and other RV owners petitioned their neighborhood association to allow recreational vehciles to be parked in driveways. Newcomer owns a 22 footRV, but you won't see it in his driveway. "It's an accident waiting to happen," Kelly Newcomer said of having to park his RV in the street. There has been plenty of debate when it comes to where you can park an RV, even at your own home. Especially when it comes to parking recreational vehicles. SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Ever have a problem with what your neighbors park in the driveway or on the street where you live? Anyway, Here is what the local news reported on TV hours after the Commissioners meeting: Im hopiing a Attorney here in Georgia who has a RV see's this and helps us. I wrote a letter yesterday to they Georgia Attorney General. Ive come to the point where there is not much more I can do, other then posting stuff like this. But what they dont realize if someone does start filing a complaint they could be in the same siuatin as us. So a lot of RVers dont want to rock the boat. I think the problem is this ordinance is complaint driven if know one complains then it wont be enforced. We didnt win the fight to change it because we didnt have enough support from other RVers. Here is the outcome of our fight to change a county ordinance in Chatham County Georgia. Its because of one niehgbor who dosnt like RV's or boats that we are having all these problems. I store my RV at the Military Base, I dont want to permantly store it at my house. We just bought our first RV last year and we having been in a battle first with our Home Owners Association (we conducted a door to door pertition and changed our covnanat to allow RV's and boats 48 hours to load and unload and to wash) then wth the County over parking rights.
